A chinese ghost story 2010
Perhaps even more, as tension is raised because Tony’s character is a monk forbidden to taste desire. Wang has just as much chemistry with Tony as she did Leslie. Switching Cheungs from Leslie to Tony is no big deal. Joey Wang is still mesmerizing, a totally convincing seductress.

It’s awesome, but if you’re looking for something as extreme and wild as CGS2 or even the first, 3 doesn’t hold a candle to that recklessness.īut you might not notice. The chief effect through most of the film is a set of gruesomely overlong nails used to kill seduced men.

They’re pretty much restrained until the finale, with just a few monster moments here and there to tide you over until then. But the effects, which do look damn good, aren’t as excessive or persistent. The production is still slick, and the foggy, spooky cinematography is just as good as ever. Mysteriously, CGS3 even dials back in comparison to the first entry. But how do you go bigger and crazier than A Chinese Ghost Story II? Apparently, you don’t. You’d think that the third entry would follow normal sequel policy and aim to be bigger and crazier than its predecessors. Lotus and Shi Fang fall in love, mystical Buddhist madness ensues.

Leslie Cheung is out, replaced by Tony Leung Chiu-wa as chaste Buddhist monk Shi Fang. Joey Wang returns as a gorgeous ghost (this time called Lotus) enslaved to an evil Tree Demon. A Chinese Ghost Story III retells the events of the first entry, though it arbitrarily takes place 100 years later.
